October Wiley Walk – Part 2

As promised . . . Part Two, which is all about the Bocce Tournament and the new shed arriving at the community garden. Hot topics for sure.

Before the weather turned not nice this fund raising event happened three times. All to raise money for the Wiley’s auxiliary health fund.

I was able to shoot photos at two of the events. On the second round “Charlie” was on hand to help out anyway he could. No doubt he is marveling at the ball throwing form of Joe.

Money is the primary motivator during this event. Secondary is the group comrade associated with an outdoor gathering.

By the way, everything in Bocce is centered on the red ball, the ball all players try to toss theirs closest to for points. I think losers had to pay the kitty.

Craig signals that Paul got a point. Or was he signaling that Bill got a point. Bill didn’t have any points when the score photo was done.

Here Bill and Paul continue during their time on the grass court.

Bocce ball photos are best when the actual ball is in the picture. So I rewarded myself these additional same guys photos because of their good ball action. I couldn’t stay to see if any Wiley Women got into action, but made a note to myself to get them at the next and final round.

What a difference a week or so makes in Bocce turnout when the weather is cold and windy and maybe threatening rain. It appears that Jerry is offering Dick some advice about technique for ball placement. The new community garden shed caught my eye. More about it later. Dot arrived and chose to ‘spectate’ while staying seated outdoors.

These Wiley Women had other ideas about watching the games. Theresa, Rosemary and Merrie huddled in one car. Helen stayed comfy in her own car.

Gloves for Dot! You bet. Blanket warmer for Joe ! You bet. The final round had Jerry up against Dick.

Today all $281 were presented to Danielle at the Food Pantry. Late cash donations could be dropped in the big bottle on the sidewalk.

A couple weeks ago the Wiley maintenance crew was on site at the community garden to construct a new pad for soon to be delivered new shed. Measure twice and cut once was their method to create the perfect pad.

In a couple of days a load of stones arrived.

When the shed arrived Dick was on hand with the check, but first the building had to be “planted”. Those are his lima beans on the garden fence.

Bill was on hand to sidewalk superintend the placement of the shed. This 10 x 10 foot building on a flat bed was first backed in by the one man installer crew.

Our guys watched Richard, from Amish Country Sheds, check out various angles before he started to fine tune the placement.

More fine tuning. More like fine rolling.

One last step was to insure the doors opened and closed properly and that the hardware lined up. Shelves and probably some form of table would soon be put in by the Wiley Men. Suzanne, Barbara and Theresa had to endure the camera : > )

Barbara and Jodi were the first gardeners to go into the new shed. The two Richards exchanged the check. Anyone who knows anyone who might need a shed tell them go to Amish Country Sheds in Medford.

I get some funny stuff on the www inter-web. This one about a photographer seemed worth sharing.

Can’t end a report without a season appropriate baby photo. She goes by Penny and is approaching one year old.

Cheer.   J o n –
