Wiley Walk April 2025

Spring Greetings (finally)

Much has still been going on here (while April Showers, combined with April Winds, which combined with low April temperatures)

tried to get in the way. Most fun activities I managed to cover, but not all. Like I missed the little kid Easter Egg hunt because someone in my family scheduled a same day – same time event far away. Sometimes life just gets in the way.

First things first . . . is to memorialize or honor a friend or loved one just by purchasing a flag for display from Flag Day (June 14th) through July 4th. Funds raised all go to support the Wiley Home Auxiliary. Complete information is included in Echoes. Jerry

If cars are lined up outside and name tags are laid out inside then it must be about food and socializing. This time residents gathered on April 10th for a Meatball Sandwiches & Games lunch in the chapel.

I like shooting in the chapel because there is a balcony for overhead photos. Tablecloths and flower centerpieces set the mood. Robin, seated facing camera, is the force behind the event. A great crowd showed up.

Fresh sandwich rolls, hot meatballs and sprinkle-on cheese is where the food line started.

Carol Veldon stepped up, then Marian, followed by Craig and MaryAnne.

And then Kristin, Helen and Dot continued on to the salad table. Christina was the salad serving helper. Bags of chips were offered over there, too.

A variety of beverages completed the food line-up. Green tops, yellow tops and white tops . . . a flavor for everyone.

Things quieted down during table time. Betty laughs every time I point the camera at her. I had to leave the event before the table games started.

Yours truly hit 83 on April 14th. One card had a $2 bill inside. The “perfect age” card inside said, NOT DEAD.

April 15th featured a smooth riding Wiley bus road trip to Mullica Hill for brunch at the Blue Plate restaurant. Sign-ups for independent residents were low, so a small group from assisted living formed the travel group. Activities Director Laura was first off the bus to alert the restaurant of the group’s arrival.

If it’s colorful and where I am I’ll make sure to do a photograph.

There were four choices; Stuffed French toast, Vegetable Quiche, Grilled Chicken & Pear Wrap and Steak Sandwich. I made the trip with Queen Falk. We both chose the quiche with salad and fruit. Brunch was more than an hour ago so I forgot the dessert choices!

Those who came from assisted living are covered by HIPAA regulations. Here’s where several of them would sit : > ) Christina kept an eye out for the bus to pull up at the end of the brunch.

April has been all about food and socializing. Proof of that is a third event. Coffee Hour on the last Monday of the month. This time it was a short smooth Wiley bus ride to Olga’s Diner on Rt. 73 on April 28th. The Queen and I arrive early by car to every far away diner chosen. We arrived late to the closest diner. All the others had ordered. Brenda, Wiley bus driver for the day is featured here.

Since we were last in last out seemed right.

I missed the Cops & Rodders Evesham Twp Police Foundation’s community fund raiser. AccuGuess had me following cancellation alerts and their “maybe-might could-might-might not” forecast mambo. When the event actually happened I was not here. But, from last year’s event here is my first car in high school, class of 1960, a 1941 Chevy coup. Mine was green.

I’m told by tree PhD’s (Piled Higher & Deeper) that this Wiley tree is an Ornamental Cherry Tree. If that information had not come to me I would have named it a “PinkbyLilacium”.

Where there is one of them there are more. The top one is over on Arbutus, but seen across the ‘Wiley Prairie’ from Balsam. The bottom one is playing around making a wide panorama view using an iPhone.

Proof that the flowering trees have a Use By Date. This from my walk along Balsam.

The gang on Honeysuckle like to gather for outside court lunch when the weather is nice. On a recent nice April day it happened again. Some Snapdragon interlopers tag along because Sally invites us : > )
A sure sign of Spring is when one of the mountains of mulch from Eric’s appears. This is one mountain shot twice.

A sign having nothing to do with Spring (but everything to do with a Snapdragon alert not to flush for part of one day), caught some attention.

Nothing is sweeter or more hopeful than a big sister happily holding her new brother. A perfect place to end the April report.
